What is A36 pipe equivalent to?

The corresponding grade of A36 steel pipe in the national standard (GB) is usually Q235B, but it is necessary to pay attention to the difference between the two in chemical composition and performance requirements.

A36: Follows the American ASTM A36 standard, which is mainly used in construction, bridges and other structural fields.
Q235B: Follows the Chinese GB/T 700 standard, belonging to the ordinary carbon structural steel.

A36: carbon (C) Less than or equal to 0.25%, sulfur (S) Less than or equal to 0.05%, phosphorus (P) Less than or equal to 0.04%.
Q235B: carbon (C) Less than or equal to 0.20%, sulfur (S) Less than or equal to 0.045%, phosphorus (P) Less than or equal to 0.045%.

A36: yield strength Greater than or equal to 250 MPa, tensile strength 400~550 MPa, elongation Greater than or equal to 20%.
Q235B: Yield strength Greater than or equal to 235 MPa, tensile strength 375~500 MPa, elongation Greater than or equal to 26%.

Q235B can be used in place of A36 for general building structures, mechanical components and other non-high-pressure or low-temperature environments, but it should be noted that its sulfur and phosphorus content is slightly higher, and its weldability is slightly inferior to that of A36.
